Anytime Turkey Chili – A Quick Recipe with Pantry Staples

If you keep canned beans, tomatoes, onion and garlic in your pantry, you can make this turkey chili on any weeknight without having to shop! This recipe is made with ground turkey to keep it lighter than traditional chili; however, you can substitute with ground beef if you (or your family) prefer!

Queen of Quick – Turkey Chili

If you keep canned beans, tomatoes,onion and garlic in your pantry, you can make this dish on any weeknightwithout having to shop.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 large onion- loosely chopped
  • 3 -4 garlic cloves minced or 1 heaping TBSP minced bottled onions
  • 2 cans fire roasted diced or crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 can kidney beans-drained
  • 1 Tbsp oregano
  • 1 Tbsp garlic salt to taste
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Chili powder to taste- start with about 1 tsp and go from there

Method
 

  1. Sauté onions until lightly caramelized
  2. Add minced garlic until lightly browned
  3. Lightly mix turkey to blend with onions and garlic, then add the diced tomatoes and sauce
  4. Mix kidney beans and stir to mix
  5. Add generous sprinkling of salt and pepper, garlic salt and chili powder
  6. Let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes for flavors to meld, then add oregano.
  7. Continue to simmer until enough liquid has cooked off and the consistency is to your preference.
