Healthy Smoothie Recipe with Spinach, Banana and Chia Seeds

Jump to Recipe

This healthy Queen of Quick smoothie recipe is a great way to consume lots of different nutrients in a simple, single serving! In Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), every food contains certain energetic properties. Some foods have a cooling effect on the body even though the foods themselves are not “cold” in temperature. On the flip side, warming foods are not always warm to the touch. Each food also falls into a yin or yang category. Warming and hot foods are considered yang foods, while cool and cold foods are considered yin foods. Each help support the body’s overall balance and should be considered when incorporating yin and yang cooking.

This recipe combines a variety of foods with different energetics, providing a balanced meal that is good and good for you! Spinach provides soluble fiber, carotenoids, vitamin C, vitamin K, folic acid, iron, and calcium and helps detox the body. The banana provides potassium and vitamin B6 and supports healthy digestion. The added peanut butter powder and protein powder will help increase your daily protein intake. The oatmeal provides an additional source of fiber to help regulate your blood sugar throughout the day. And the chia seeds contain antioxidants, minerals, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids to support overall health.

One note for smoothies in general: they are better consumed during the warmer months when trying to balance external heat. Consuming too many cold-temperature foods can be hard on digestion, especially during colder months when we need to conserve our energy.
